mimitan Privacy Policy

mimitan is a JLPT Japanese vocabulary app developed by Zhen Zong. This policy explains what mimitan collects, why, and how you can delete it.

1. What we collect

• We (the developer) do not collect your study data. mimitan has no account system; words, example sentences, audio and your study progress all stay on your device.
• Content reports (only when you send one): when you touch and hold a word or example sentence on a card and choose “Report a Problem”, the app sends an anonymous report: which word, whether it is the word or the example, the problem category (pronunciation / meaning or translation / other), a version fingerprint of that content, the app's language and version, and the OS version. Reports contain no account, device identifier, study progress or any text you type. The server uses your IP address only for same-day rate limiting: it is combined with the date and cryptographically hashed, only the hash is stored (never the IP itself), and the value changes every day so reports cannot be linked across days. Reports are used only to fix content errors.
• iCloud sync: if your device is signed in to iCloud, your study progress (which words you have studied, each word's memory state and review schedule, your study days, your selected dictionaries and preferences) is stored via Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) in the private database of your own iCloud account, so it can sync across your devices. Only your Apple Account can access it; the developer cannot read it. It is governed by Apple's iCloud privacy terms. Without iCloud, progress stays on the device only.

2. How it is used

The data in iCloud serves one purpose only: syncing your study progress across your own devices. Nothing else.

3. What we do not do

• No tracking, and no linking of your activity across other apps or websites.
• No ads, no advertising identifier (IDFA), no third-party analytics or telemetry SDKs.
• We never sell, rent or trade your data.
• We do not collect location, contacts, photos, health data, microphone or camera content.

4. Third parties

• Apple iCloud (Apple Inc.) — your study progress lives in your own iCloud private database (see section 1).
• Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.) — hosts the word and sentence audio files. When the app fetches audio, Cloudflare briefly sees your IP address in its server logs, as any website would; no study data is transmitted. Content reports are also stored with Cloudflare (see section 1).

No other third party receives your data.

5. Retention and deletion

Your study progress is kept until you delete it.

In the app, go to Me → iCloud Sync → Delete iCloud Data. This immediately and permanently deletes your progress data from iCloud and also clears the study data on this device. Deletion is immediate and irreversible; we keep no backups (we never had access to it).

To stop syncing without deleting, turn mimitan off under iOS Settings → your Apple Account → iCloud — local data is kept and the data in iCloud is untouched.

6. Children

mimitan is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information.

7. Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes will be explained in the app.
